East Lake Library serves the Longfellow neighborhood of Minneapolis, first opening for service in 1924 during the area’s major manufacturing boom. The library relocated to its current location in 1976 and was renovated and expanded in 2007. In 2020, East Lake Library underwent a six-month remediation project to address damage caused by civil unrest and return the library to service. The work included repairing or replacing furniture, flooring, HVAC, windows, electrical and IT equipment; and preservation and cleaning of library materials.
