We think history is distant. It's this thing in the past. Whereas, once you start reading and investigating, you realize people never change.

 - Ariel Lawhon

New York Times Bestselling Author

Ariel Lawhon is a critically acclaimed, bestselling author of historical fiction. Her novels include Code Name Hélène, the thrilling real-life story of a socialite spy who killed a Nazi with her bare hands and went on to become one of the most decorated women in WWII, and I Was Anastasia, which follows the extraordinary twists and turns in Anna Anderson's 50-year battle to be recognized as Anastasia Romanov. Lawhon also penned Flight of Dreams, The Wife, the Maid, and the Mistress, and was coauthor of When We Had Wings.

Her latest novel, The Frozen River, is a gripping historical mystery inspired by the life and diary of Martha Ballard, a renowned 18th-century midwife who defied the legal system and wrote herself into American history. The novel is a New York Times bestseller, a Good Morning America Book Club pick, and an NPR book of the year. “Lawhon’s gripping tale feels like an authentic foray into the past and her wonderful heroine rings true. Indeed, Martha is so vividly rendered that it is hard not to become absorbed in her narrative and emotionally invested in her life,” hails the Minnesota Star Tribune.

Lawhon’s books have been translated into numerous languages and have been selections for Library Reads, One Book One County, and Book of the Month Club. She lives in the rolling hills outside Nashville, Tennessee, with her husband and four sons.
