Walker Library, located in the heart of the Uptown neighborhood in Minneapolis, began serving area neighborhoods upon its opening at 2901 Hennepin Avenue South in 1911. Named for local businessman, art collector and Library Board President T.B. Walker (1840-1928), the library moved across the street to an underground location on the northwest corner of Hennepin and Lagoon Avenues in the 1970s. In 2014, a new library was built on the same site, this time above ground.
