Nestled between large pine and oak trees, Penn Lake Library opened in 1970 as the first free-standing library built in the City of Bloomington. The library was renovated in 2003. In the decades prior to 1970, the library was housed in various community locations, including Bloomington Schools Administration Building (1954-57) and Lincoln High School (1957-62.)

Friends of Penn Lake Library

Friends of Penn Lake Library is a volunteer-run organization whose mission is to support the Penn Lake Library and uplift the spirit of the surrounding community. As ambassadors for the library, Friends of Penn Lake Library members advocate for community needs and help promote library programs and services.
