A statue of Minerva has welcomed patrons to the Central Library in Minneapolis since it opened in 1889. Minerva is the ancient Roman goddess of wisdom, learning, and the arts. She is also the protector of libraries. By joining or renewing your support of the Library Foundation's Minerva Circle, you can help to strengthen the Hennepin County Library.
The Library relies on the Foundation for private support to offer and enhance essential programs and services. The Hennepin County Library system now serves nearly one-quarter of all Minnesotans with 41 facilities, 1,750 computers, and a collection of more than 5 million books, CDs and DVDs. A strong public library system fosters literate citizens, prospering families, and a skilled workforce prepared to compete in a knowledge-based economy.
While support to the Library is our most important mission, the Foundation presents the subscription-based Pen Pals author series at the Hopkins Center for the Arts and the free Talk of the Stacks series at Central Library in Minneapolis. Members of our Minerva Circle enjoy private receptions with our nationally-acclaimed program presenters throughout the year.
