Southdale Friends to host an "Author's Evening"

The Friends of the Southdale Library are excited to announce "An Author's Evening," held on September 20, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Southdale Library. Featured authors are Leanne Knott (The Keepers Daughter and Leviathan Shore) and Patti Zona (The Value of a Homemaker). Friends Groups throughout the County Host Spring Book Sales

This spring, many library friends groups are hosting book sales to raise funds for their local library. Last year, book sales throughout the Hennepin County Library system, raised more than $180,000 for Friends groups. Each sale features hundreds of adult and children's fiction and nonfiction books in hardcover and paperback. Most books are priced at $1 or less. Plymouth Friends Sponsor Events After Grand Opening

The new Plymouth Library will open on Saturday, March 13, to an eagerly-awaiting community. The new library features expanded parking, an expanded collection, outdoor plaza gathering area, a green roof, geothermal wells, interactive features for early childhood literacy, a teen zone, additional public computers, drive-up book drop and much more. There will be a grand opening celebration and March 13 and a special line-up of programs, sponsored by The Friends of the Plymouth Library, will occur during the first two opening weeks. Library Volunteers Participate at Record Pace

2009 was a record-setting year for volunteerism at the Hennepin County Library. More than 1800 adults and teens volunteered at the Library -- contributing more than 86,562 hours of service to the 41-branch system. The Library is currently seeking for more homework and computer tutors, as well as volunteers to assist with library materials at all branches. Friends of the Library Groups Work Together to Support Library's Collections

In partnership with the Library Foundation, local Friends of the Library Groups from Champlin, Edina, Golden Valley, Hopkins, Maple Grove, Minnetonka, Oxboro, Penn Lake, Plymouth, Rockford Road, St. Anthony, St. Louis Park, Wayzata, and Westonka contributed more than $250,000 to the HCL collections fund. This fund will be used to help Hennepin County Library purchase books, DVDs, and CDs that can be accessed at any Hennepin County Library. The Library currently has more than 5 million items in its collection.

Edina Friends Make $10,000 Gift

A big thank you to The Friends of the Edina Library for their recent gift of $10,000 to support the purchase of books and other collections throughout the 41 libraries of the Hennepin County system. The Library’s collection of over 5 million items is accessible and serves patrons at all of the Hennepin County libraries, so the grant from the Edina Friends will go to enhance their own local collection as well as throughout the system. This gift is also a boost to achieving the goal of raising $250,000 in 2009 to support collections purchases jointly by the Library Foundation and the local Friends groups.

Friends of Rogers Library Wins Evy Nordley Award

The Friends of the Rogers Library was awarded the Minnesota Association of Library Friends’ Evy Nordley Award at the Minnesota Library Association’s annual conference for its “Senior Tech Day” program, a hands-on opportunity for seniors to learn about new technology and computers. Congratulations Rogers Friends!
