Despite the beautiful white flakes falling from the sky, Pen Pals with Dennis Lehane is still happening. He is in town and ready to talk writing. Tickets are still available at the door: $40 – $50.
Dennis Lehane is a proven master of both crime and literary fiction. Three of his New York Times bestselling books — Shutter Island, Gone, Baby, Gone and Mystic River— have been adapted into feature films by some of Hollywood’s biggest names, including Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese and Ben Affleck. Author of nine acclaimed novels, a collection of short stories and a play, Lehane blames his storytelling tendencies on his family, a large and extensive Irish-American family from Boston. Winner of numerous awards including a Shamus Award and a Barry Award for Best Novel, his work is known for its well-paced, tightly wound plots filled with realistic and detailed characters. In the words of a Kirkus reviewer: “[Lehane] knows every block of the neighborhood and every hair on his characters’ heads.”
Dennis Lehane will share the creative inspiration for his wide breadth of work as he discusses the writing life and his latest novel, Live by Night.
This event is part of the Pen Pals Author Lecture series, a ticketed series benefiting the Friends of HCL. The 2012-2013 series features five diverse speakers in one scintillating series, including Salman Rushdie, Alice Kaplan, Roz Chast, Dennis Lehane and Armistead Maupin.
