“Art Spiegelman’s cartoons don’t fool around.” —Los Angeles Times
Artist and illustrator Art Spiegelman has almost single-handedly brought comic books out of the toy closet and onto literature shelves. He won the Pulitzer Prize for his masterful Holocaust narrative, MAUS, and the coveted Grand Prix at the Angoulême International Comics Festival. His critically acclaimed work includes In the Shadow of No Towers, named a New York Times Notable Book, and Kisses from New York, which chronicled his work with The New Yorker.
This event is part of the Pen Pals Author Lecture series, a ticketed series benefiting Friends of HCL. The 2013–14 Pen Pals Season offers five eclectic and engaging authors who collectively have won many of the world’s most coveted literary honors: George Saunders, A.S. Byatt, Luis Alberto Urrea, Art Spiegelman and Tracy K. Smith.
Individual tickets are $40 for level 2 and $50 for level 1. Subscribers receive a 20% discount. Friends of HCL members can receive an additional discount of $10 per subscription and $5 per ticket. Complimentary desserts and coffee served before each programs. A public book signing open to all attendees follows the daytime lectures. An exclusive wine/appetizer post-lecture reception with the author is available for $25 after all evening lectures.
