Each screening features a pre-show activity, an educational introduction for children's film fans, and complimentary healthy snacks from Whole Foods Market. Admission is free with open seating to the public.

This fall, Childish Films will take place the third Saturday of the month at the Minneapolis Central Library and the last Saturday of the month at the Southdale Library. Programming at the Brookdale and Ridgedale libraries will be scheduled later in the season and a special children's film showcase is slated for next spring.

eBooks Now Available at the Library

eBookCustomers can now check out and download eBooks in the EPUB format through the Library's website at www.hclib.org. An eBook is a digital or electronic version of a paper book. Instead of being printed onto paper and bound into books, the text is formatted into a digital file and read via a special eBook reader, computer or other electronic device. Hennepin County Library is the first public library in the Twin Cities metro area to offer this format. eBooks offer existing library customers a new format, but also are a means for Hennepin County Library to reach out to people who otherwise may not use the library This pilot program offers approximately 700 titles available for download.
Upcoming Events Made Possible by Legacy Funding

In November 2008, Minnesota voters approved a constitutional amendment to dedicate funds for Minnesota's Outdoor Heritage, Clean Water, Parks and Trails, and Arts and Cultural Heritage. Through this amendment, Minnesota's 300 public libraries received funding to provide new programs and services in four areas: arts, culture, literary and Minnesota history. These funds provided the Hennepin County Library with $277,000 this year and next year for new programs. The Hennepin County Library has been utilizing these funds to present an array of programs. Upcoming programs at Hennepin County libraries include exhibits and panel discussions, creative writing workshops, history and multicultural progams, bi-lingual storytelling, community cinema, author presentations, workshops for teens on poetry and video making, collections support, and more.
