Donating books

Donate to Friends of HCL Booksotre:
The Friends of the Library greatly appreciates and depends on your donations to resell in our bookstore. Your donations are converted into financial support for HCL programs and projects.

Donation Policy
Please bring donations to the bookstore front counter during store hours and our volunteer cashier will assist you. Donation receipts for tax purposes are issued at the time of delivery. Donors are responsible for assigning monetary value to donated, non-cash goods. If you require special assistance or have a large donation (more boxes or bags than you could easily carry into the bookstore), contact the bookstore manager, Holly Bauer, directly at 612-543-8111 in advance of your visit and we can arrange to meet you and your vehicle in the library’s loading dock.

If you have a rare or valuable item that you would like to donate to the Friends Bookstore, please contact the manager, Holly, at 612-543-8111 to make special arrangements.

In addition to books, we accept donations of media and assorted printed material, including:
-Audio CDs
-LPs
-Books on CD and tape
-DVDs, Blu-ray discs, VHS tapes
-Computer software and console games
-Text books (Due to space limitations textbooks must be no older than 2010)
-Magazines (Due to space limitations magazines must be from the current year)
-Vintage posters, photos, postcards, travel brochures, maps, menus and other printed material
-Graphic Novels
-Comic Books

We Do Not Accept:
-Books which are damp or moldy
-General encyclopedias (World Book, Britannica, etc.)
-Legal statutes and casebooks
-National Geographic magazines
-CDs, DVDs, etc. without their original cases
-Home-recorded (aka burned) CDs, DVDs, etc.

Donate to a local Friends group: Many local Friends groups throughout the system also accept donations of materials to resale at their local book sales. Visit the local Friends section to contact individual groups to find out about their donation policies and needs.
