“Donations to the collection will help us acquire more of the materials patrons want and get them to patrons faster.” -Library Director, Lois Langer Thompson
After several years of large budget cuts, Hennepin County Library (HCL) is looking to reinvest in its collection. This means acquiring more materials to increase the breadth of the collection and decrease patron wait times. Currently, the Library has almost 1,500 titles with more than five patrons on its waiting list. These are not just bestsellers; they include other high-demand titles such as standardized test preparation materials. This can result in a wait time of 10-12 months for a book!
In 2014, Friends of HCL goal is to invest $200,000 in the collection to help purchase 8,000+ books. With your help, your Library will be able to get the right books into the right hands more quickly.
