The Friends of the Hennepin County Library is an independent, non-profit 501(c)3 organization with a mission to enrich the resources and enhance the potential of the Hennepin County Library.
Over the past ten years, with the help of thousands of donors and members, we have provided more than $41 million in direct programmatic and cash support to libraries in Hennepin County. In addition, our advocacy efforts, in partnership with the library and civic leaders, have secured hundreds of millions of dollars in increased public support for libraries.
With a history dating back to 1949, the recently-renamed Friends of the Hennepin County Library is building a new, dynamic model for increased library support in our community. Today, our organization brings together the former Library Foundation of Hennepin County and the Friends of the Minneapolis Public Library, in partnership with the local, independent library friends groups at each of the 41 libraries.
Here is a selection of highlights over the last twenty years of how private support has enhanced our libraries.
