MISSION

Coming Together to Support Libraries in Your Community

The Library Foundation of Hennepin County helps to ensure that our libraries throughout the county are thriving community centers of intellectual discovery and lifelong learning. Our core organizational goals are to:

  1. To provide financial support to the Hennepin County Library system in the form of private dollars from individuals, corporations and foundations, and businesses.
  2. To present exceptional cultural programs for library patrons and literary fans.
  3. To foster community appreciation for our library and educate the public about the value and impact of library services.

On December 1, 2008, the Library Foundation of Hennepin County and The Friends of the Minneapolis Public united to create a unified, dynamic library support organization. The merged Foundation brings together 85 years of experience, 5,000 active library supporters, and positions the organization to better serve libraries in Minneapolis and throughout Hennepin County. Watch a short video about some of the ways we're making a difference.

The Hennepin County Library is one of the best in the country, serving more than 1.1 million patrons at 41 locations with 5 million books. It was ranked 4th in a recent national library review and received the highest rating of 5 stars by the Library Journal. The strength of any library is based on its support in the community.

If you share the belief that libraries are essential to a literate, prosperous community, you are encouraged to get more involved with the Library Foundation of Hennepin County by joining and making a donation, signing up for our free e-newsletter, becoming a fan of our Facebook page, or attending an event.
