Author Alice Kaplan, a leading specialist in French literature and culture, will take the Pen Pals Author Lecture Series stage in November. Held at the Hopkins Center for the Arts, Pen Pals with Alice Kaplan benefits the Friends of the Hennepin County Library. Come early to enjoy complimentary desserts and coffee, peruse books and listen to French accordion music by Dan Newton (a.k.a. Daddy Squeeze). Ms. Kaplan will share her love affair with France and discuss three extraordinary American women—Jackie Kennedy, Susan Sontag and Angela Davis—whose lives were changed by Paris.

ABOUT ALICE KAPLAN: Alice Kaplan has spent her life telling stories about France, covering past and present, literature and history, the personal and the political. From her memoir French Lessons, to her looks at World War II and its aftermath in The Collaborator and The Interpreter, to her stunning triple biographical portrait in Dreaming in French: The Paris Years of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, Susan Sontag, and Angela Davis. Born in Minnesota, Kaplan is a professor of French at Yale University, an acclaimed translator and is recognized internationally as a leading specialist of the twentieth-century French literature and culture. Alice Kaplan will talk about the romantic dream of mid-century France and three extraordinary American women—Jackie Kennedy, Susan Sontag and Angela Davis—whose lives were changed by Paris.
ABOUT PEN PALS: All Pen Pals programs are held at the Hopkins Center for the Arts — offering great sound and sight lines throughout the entire house. Located at 1111 Mainstreet, Hopkins (just 15 minutes from downtown Minneapolis), Hopkins Center for the Arts offers free convenient parking as well as numerous nearby restaurants. Tickets are $40 for balcony seating and $50 for main floor seating (prices include all taxes and handling fees).
